😱This week’s OMG moment

Hurricane Beryl, a powerful Category 4 storm, is heading towards Jamaica after crossing islands in the southeast Caribbean, resulting in at least six deaths. A hurricane warning is in effect for Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and parts of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Despite losing some intensity, Beryl remains a significant threat, expected to pass near or over Jamaica early Wednesday with life-threatening winds and storm surge. Prime Minister Andrew Holness urged residents to take the threat seriously. The National Hurricane Center warned of potential flash floods and mudslides due to heavy rainfall, particularly in mountainous regions.

🦘Australia's AUB Group Ltd. completed the acquisition of a 70% stake in Pacific Indemnity, a specialty underwriting agency, on July 1. The acquisition is valued at A$192 million and is part of AUB's strategy to enhance its portfolio in financial lines, particularly professional indemnity. To finance the deal, AUB raised A$200 million through an institutional share placement, paying A$105 million upfront with the remainder contingent on Pacific Indemnity's 2024-2025 performance. Pacific Indemnity, established in 2015, specializes in professional indemnity, directors and officers liability, and general liability insurance, with binders from Lloyd’s syndicates and local carriers. CEO Mike Emmett highlighted the acquisition's alignment with AUB's growth strategy and mutual benefits across the group. Despite the acquisition, Pacific Indemnity will continue to operate under its current name and management team. AUB Group remains on track to achieve its 2023-2024 financial targets and continues to explore further acquisition opportunities.
